We’ve borrowed the colour coding from skiing to categorise the different groups, and can choose your ride group based on the criteria below. Our guest experience team are always on hand to advise if you’re unsure. Joyriding is about the pleasure of riding - even at faster paces groups aren’t races or training sessions.
black group
You’re a pretty serious rider, who likes to push yourself to your limits. You’re experienced riding in a group and frequently ride 100km+ at approx 30km/h (assuming non-mountainous territory!)
red group
You’re a strong rider who is used to riding at a 27kph+ pace for a good few hours. You could push yourself harder, but you’d prefer a bit more of a chat with your fellow riders.
blue group
You’re a competent rider who is comfortable riding at a 23kph+ pace, but you’re not looking to push too hard or study your FTP. A cheeky extra coffee stop is always welcome!
green group
If you’re fairly new to riding (we recommend 3 months preparation at least!) or you’ve decided joyriding for you is at a steady 20kph+ tempo, with a beautiful route of approx 50-60 kilometres. The green group is also open to e-bike riders if you’re keen to experience what the fuss is about, but you’re not sure your engine can quite manage it, without a little boost.
Yes, you can ride to the Isle of Wight and get on the ferry as a foot passenger with your bike. We are putting together some organised rides to get you there in a groups, with your luggage separately, starting from various points in SE England. Watch this space for more details.
No - we are all about Joyriding
We also know that guests may want to push themselves (and maybe step up to a faster group the following year), so a ride preparation plan can be provided as a guide to get you ready. This is not a mandatory training plan but more to give an idea of the level of riding in the different groups.
The level of support depends on which package you book. There will be a “broom wagon” out on the routes for assistance as required.
platinum
These rides are supported with a luxury support car, should you have a mechanical issue or crash. 2 ride leaders per group of up to 10 riders.
celeste
These rides are supported by Ride Leaders who will support you with minor mechanical issues you may encounter, however there’s no supporting car. 2 ride leaders per group of up to 12 riders.
white
1 ride leader per group of up to 12 riders will show you the best roads on the island - however you’ll be expected to fix any minor mechanical issues yourself.
There will be a “broom wagon” out on the routes for assistance as required. Every ride will be given contact details and procedure in case of emergency.
Our groups vary in numbers but most groups will be 10-12 riders.
